TUG RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TANKERS BERTHING AT FINNGAS, HAMINA

The pier of Finngas is exposed to winds from various directions. In order to maintain full safety in berthing operations we give following recommendations for the use of tug service.

  1. When the average wind exceeds 9 m/s, the arriving tankers are recommended to use at least one tug, unless the vessel is not equipped with bow thrusters.
  2. When the average wind exceeds 13 m/s, also arriving tankers with bow thrusters are recommended to use at least one tug.
  3. When the average wind exceeds 15 m/s, arriving tankers with no bow thrusters are recommended to use at least two tugs.

Also under other conditions, when the Pilot, or Harbourmaster advises to use the tug(s), the master is strongly recommended to follow the advice.

Harbourmaster may also under special circumstances order the vessel to use one, or more tugs.

The length, draught and lateral wind force area of the vessel also affect the Pilot's decision concerning the number of the tugs.

Master of the berthing vessel is always responsible for the berthing operations of his/her vessel.
